An ideal Yew for southern landscapes, the Fastigiata tolerates both heat and humidity, unlike other yews. It is very slow-growing and prefers some part shade. Showy fruit on female plants provide some winter interest. Maintains a broad, shrubby habit with horizontal branches, but can be trained into a small tree.
Prefers moist, well-drained soil but tolerates dry, sandy, or clay soil. Drought and heat tolerant once established. Like most needled evergreens, partial shade from afternoon sun is appreciated. Japanese Plum Yews work well in a woodland or shade garden as an accent or planted in mass along a border.

Duke Gardens Plum Yew is a slow-growing, spreading, evergreen shrub. It has soft, glossy, dark green (almost back-green) foliage. Performs wonderfully in a shade garden or in woodland conditions. It is drought tolerant once established. This plant is also deer-resistant. Will tolerate many soil conditions, so long as it is well drained. First discovered in Duke Gardens in 1958.
