Variegated Pyracantha (also called Scarlet Firethorn) is an evergreen shrub and has small creamy green variegated leaves with hues of pinkish-red in the cooler months. Pyracantha is a great pollinator plant and bright orange to red berries that are enjoyed by birds.
A member of the Rose family, stems have sharp spines that deer tend to avoid. Scarlet Firethorn is an impenetrable hedge that can be used for screening, to define property lines, or for security. This shrub prefers full sun to partial shade, with dry to moist, well-drained soils. It is tolerant of clay soils, drought, and hot, dry conditions. Keep in mind that next season's blossoms will appear on old growth.
