Oakleaf hydrangeas make a great informal hedge or stand-alone specimen plant in the landscape near a patio or foundation.  Snow Queen's showy white flowers appear from late spring to early summer and they fade to pink as they age. The stems of this shrub are strong and make an excellent choice for a cutting garden, since the flowers are seldom damaged.  Leaves turn a beautiful orange-red to dark burgundy in fall alongside the exfoliating bark, sometimes hanging on the plant.

Blooms occur on old wood, so prune immediately after flowering. Any winter damaged stems can be pruned in early spring.  It works well in small groups, in shrub borders, as an informal hedge, or in a woodland or winter themed garden.
