Japanese Snowbell is a relatively compact tree, that starts out vase-shaped, but tends to branch out as it gets older. Its hard, dense wood belies the beautiful, dingly white flowers in the spring. Styrax thrives in full-to-part sun locations. It makes a great specimen plant in the landscape and provides three-season interest with its irregular, orange-brown winter bark. Needs constantly moist, slightly acidic, and well-drained soil. Plant near a patio, lawn, or bed border. Plays well with shade-loving plants underneath.
